@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: These guys are fabulous filmmakers.

@Hell Yes: Yes! I'm famous! Quoted in the vaunted Channel Frederator newsletter! I TOLD you this was cool. :)
Now imagine if these robots were like a visualization plug in for your media player. Reacting spontaneously to the music and the beat, not pre-programmed. Thinking for themselves... It'll happen...

  • ESPMagus wrote on January 25, 10:45 am

@The Touchtone Genius: I'm left with the same feeling that the guy getting the call has...

    "What just happened?"

But I'm also laughing. Basic concept, funny idea, nice execution.

  • ESPMagus wrote on January 25, 10:51 am

@Karas: The Prophecy Promo: Well, I'm pretty much completely unfamiliar with the story, cast, animators and producers, but this looks pretty bad-ass... I've still gotta complete my Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex collection though...

Bad-ass is a requirement for a 5-rating, though, and they've definitely earned that.

  • ESPMagus wrote on January 25, 11:05 am

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: Oh, how history repeats itself. *sigh*

I was wondering how they were going to end that. All of the depression-era cartoons always have the bright future of the prosperity our country experienced following WWII. We're still in the midst of our troubles here.
    Vote, people!

  • appleofuri wrote on January 25, 11:37 am

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: Saw this before great cartoon and even better message.

  • MattWilson wrote on January 25, 1:36 pm

@Karas: The Prophecy Promo: This doesn't sit well with me because it's a blatant advertisement for a DVD rather than a legitimate cartoon. It's MANGA's fault more than yours because they don't seem to understand what your podcast is about. There's definitely room to bring awareness and appreciation to Japanese animation but this is not it, because it's selling me a DVD rather than selling me the series. When you show something from Oh Yeah Cartoons, you show the full short. You don't show a randomized clip package for 30 seconds and say TUNE INTO OH YEAH CARTOONS ON NICKELODEON!! I would try to pressure these companies into following FUNimation's example with iFilm.com. What they've done is screen specific, 3 minute clips from an episode/film, and sometimes even give away the first 8 entire minutes. That seems like a more effective way of getting people interested in something cool from across the globe than just saying "BUY THE DVD, IT'S COOL YOU CAN TRUST US". See if Manga could do that with Karas, or whatever other series they're shilling right now.

  • MattWilson wrote on January 25, 1:44 pm

@The Touchtone Genius: I saw this on newgrounds. It's bizarre but interesting. It's art is simple but it works. "Your mom's fat" is the icing on the cake.

  • emoose wrote on January 25, 2:55 pm

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: Long, slow, and boring. Not even worthy of comparison to actual pre-war propaganda films. Only slightly amusing in light of recent predictions of massive shortages of workers in the near future, and the fact that my portfolio has nearly doubled in the past two years.

  • MargotM wrote on January 25, 2:55 pm

@Karas: The Prophecy Promo: Frederator: Please let us know how we can buy this DVD when it comes out. Or maybe it already came out? What? Thanks.

  • xopher wrote on January 25, 6:08 pm

@Hell Yes: Scale of 1 to 5 on how good a cartoon this is? It has to be a 1. It's a great video, don't get me wrong, but I feel that it's obviously not a cartoon. If you want to hire someone to watch all your submissions, maybe as a first screening, and separate the cartoons from the non-cartoons, I'll do it for, like, $15 an hour.

  • xopher wrote on January 25, 6:10 pm

@The Touchtone Genius: This is not a live-action film. Great job! Very impressive short. And it's nicely short. 5.

  • xopher wrote on January 25, 6:16 pm

@Karas: The Prophecy Promo: This was animated, but It was an animated trailer. Looked like it came from nice stuff, but it was edited horribly, I lost interest in it a fourth of the way in, the type over the image was annoying. And it was an advertisement. 1.

  • xopher wrote on January 25, 6:19 pm

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: Now, I'm a left-winger and all, so I appreciate the message, and whatever. But I have to agree with the more conservative emoose here, regarding "Long, slow, and boring." This film isn't changing any minds, and it hardly makes a point. And it's boring. 2.

  • xopher wrote on January 25, 6:20 pm

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: And the use of the real audio, ala Smigel, was....no Smigel.

  • AJD08 wrote on January 25, 7:50 pm

@Hell Yes: Either that was some fine CG work, or it wasn't animation at all. But still It is a great improvement from the last "Hell Yes"

  • AJD08 wrote on January 25, 7:53 pm

@The Touchtone Genius: lol. Insanely genius. I wish i could play the phone like a piano...

  • AJD08 wrote on January 25, 7:55 pm

@Karas: The Prophecy Promo: It looked cool, not a big fan of Anime/Manga myself...

  • AJD08 wrote on January 25, 7:56 pm

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: Interesting, but not quite as good as his other film.

  • toongirl wrote on January 25, 8:25 pm

@Karas: The Prophecy Promo: In response to Matt Wilson, I agree on one hand. I didn't necessarily think this was an intentional ADVERTISEMENT Channel Frederator wanted to post. I do think it was an attempt to bring awareness to Japanese animation, and I think they did a great job. Forgetting it was a trailer and it offered a DVD at the end, it really opened my eyes to a new animation style. I was totally unfamiliar with it until I saw this clip.I think we're all intelligent enough not to buy something just because we're told to buy it.

  • xopher wrote on January 25, 8:30 pm

@Karas: The Prophecy Promo: That doesn't mean it was a very good advertisement. I can watch a Subway commercial and find out that they have a new squid sandwich, a type of sandwich which I'm unfamiliar with, and it might have great photography of a great squid sandwich. But odds are, it will be an annoying commercial.

  • xopher wrote on January 25, 8:32 pm

  • I_own_u wrote on January 25, 9:27 pm

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: not bad not bad, agreed with xopher, "long slow and boring," but at the same time not a bad film. Worth watching. The machine part reminded me of Charlie Chaplins scene in Modern Times. Not bad, as i sad b4.

  • toongirl wrote on January 25, 9:35 pm

@Hell Yes: The robots appear to be computer generated, hence the reason why it was on Channel Frederator. And if they were real robots, I forgive you Channel Frederator (but just this once. Don't you EVER play anything other than cartoons AGAIN. EVER!!). Are we forgetting something xopher? The podcast is free. Maybe if Channel Frederator charges, they could afford your "salary".

  • djp72 wrote on January 25, 10:11 pm

    It's better than Poop Baseball!

  • bungholio wrote on January 26, 1:04 am

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: I laughed at the scene showing the VA hospital closed down. I'm certain that's not the response I'm intended to have. Most of them should be shut down.

The VA hospitals I've seen have been f---g hell holes that were on the brink of losing accreditation. Pumping more money into the system will never change who gets hired. The dentist they hired to work at our local facility was so incompetent that patients would actually walk out on him. It's not surprising that Donald Harvey the mass murderer met the employee standards for the Cincinnati VA.

Having been a Navy Hospital Corpman I'm sympathetic to medically retired veterans, but offering the same type of medical care to the rest of the country with universal health care would be criminal. Of course the senators, congressmen, and presidential cabinet members would still be getting the best care imaginable at Bethesda Naval Hospital if we had such a plan.

  • saketini99 wrote on January 26, 3:53 am

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: Okay, I have to agree with everyone. Up 'till this point I have appreciated the ommision of political biases and opinions from CF. I don't watch CF to get some serious message about the world and to blame all my problems on one dude I've never met. If this cartoon would have been funny, that's one thing. Look, beside that, this short sucked my @#!. Please, put poop baseball in and do us a favor.

  • rarenskc wrote on January 27, 11:54 am

@Karas: The Prophecy Promo: I love and respect the art of anime, but it has become such a ubiquitous form of animation. I look to Frederator to bring me the unique, the hard to find, the vision of independent artists. So I can't say I liked this piece as a submission. The moral of the story...keep it real, stop promoting the studio machine and inspire us again with art.

I like the original storylines and styles, and neither the storyline or the style were original on this one. @The Touchtone Genius: Wow, I laughed a lot at that. That was really funny.

  • Zac wrote on January 28, 10:31 pm

@Karas: The Prophecy Promo: Okay, the movie looks like a bad ass, however completely typical action anime flick. I would rent it or watch it with friends, but there is nothing compelling about it.

That said, why the hell are you putting a promo in the segment? I thought this was for short animated films? If the trailer had somethign to offer other than a few cool shots, I might forgive you, but this is just lame. Igave it a one on principle.

  • Zac wrote on January 28, 10:37 pm

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: I have to agree with xopher. If you are going to have partisan cartoonery on a show, atleast make it good. The film was very slow and offered very little. If it had been a better cartoon I wouldn't bat an eye, but if you are going to stir up the right wing crazies (no offense) atleast do it with a cartoon that might convince some of them, make me feel good to be liberal, or at the least, be fun to watch.

Art shouldn't be censored because it is political, but this is clearly intended propoganda first and art second (or third or tenth). I have seen the Muffs cartoon, so I know these guys can do better. I have little time in my life for propoganda, whether or not I agree with it.

  • tuomime wrote on January 29, 2:29 am

  • tomdestroy wrote on January 29, 3:13 pm

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: Thanks, again, for the compliments and crits everyone. In defense of our cartoon, I will mention that this was the first cartoon I ever made. In retrospect (made it over 2 years ago) I would tighten things up a lot, and improve the animation, timing, etc... And, again, in defense of the use of Flash- when you're a one-man animation studio, with no funding, you use the best tool to complete the project. On content- Propaganda was the obvious goal with this film, and heartstrings were what we were aiming for- not all cartoons are intended to be funny. I wasn't sure if this cartoon would go over well with the Frederator audience, but I'm grateful to CF for putting it on. Sorry to have bored some of you, but at least you can fast-forward in hopes of seeing more pooop-baseball. Anyway- I do appreciate, and enjoy, reading the comments- even when they are negative. Thanks!

  • ESPMagus wrote on January 30, 11:34 am

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: Well, regardless of what the people above said about this being the appropriate forum for a political cartoon, I'd say that this is the PERFECT venue. I like to think that one of the forces behind Channel Frederator, (and ALL podcasting), is the escape from mainstream media. So in that vein, it's almost universally acknowledged that politics in the mainstream are consistently misrepresented. Whether it's conservatives complaining about the "Liberal Media" or left-leaning individuals complaining about Fox and the descent of modern journalism, it's pretty much agreed that the media isn't getting it right. So, posting a toon that pushes a certain political point of view is EXACTLY what you guys should be doing. I won't even demand that you post a counter-point video because the nature of the internet and the podosphere is that, if they want it, audiences don't have to go far to find an opposing view. I mean, I guess I'd LIKE it if you did post something in opposition, (due to my objectivity/ethical journalism training), but you are, by no means obligated to as Fox and CNN and the other news outlets claim to be, (though they consistently neglect that self-imposed obligation). Sorry if this is a bit rambling, but I hope it makes sense. Just thought I'd let you know that there are those in your audience who, in fact, appreciate your step into the real world.

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: Great ... Another nice blog taken over by the rabid left, and destroyed. You've lost another viewer CF. Slashdot ... fark .. digg ... now CF ... f@#$ing brilliant. Is there anything on this world the liberals haven't managed to corrupt? ANYTHING? If I wanted a politics debate, I'd go to a POLITICS blog. Not a CARTOON blog ... I want to see cartoons doing crazy, funny things ... not some left-wing hack screed full of half-truths and lies. What a waste of bandwidth, and my time.

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: Great, an advertisement. I hate animes in this style. They look awful and the story seems just awful too.

@Karas: The Prophecy Promo: Mm...anime is cool and this looks kickass, but I'm not sure what it's doing here.

  • DuckWaters wrote on July 18, 3:16 pm

@Brother, Can You Spare A Job?: I love the b/w animation and the old music. Propaganda cartoons are interesting to me, but I didn't really like this one too much. I guess I sort of agree with the people who thought it boring. I don't mind it being here. It's cool that Frederator mixes things up.
